How to Support Music Practice
How to Support Your Child's Music Practice (Even If You're Not a Musician)
Supply the Essentials
Make sure your child has access to an instrument, headphones/ear buds, and a dedicated practice space.
Establish a Routine with Dynabuddy
Dynabuddy videos are an excellent resource to help your child establish a consistent practice routine. Have music practice occur before or after something they regularly do to make it part of the day.
Encourage Daily Practice
5 minutes a day is much better than an hour or two once a week. I often tell students "If there was a magic trick to learning music it would be to do it every day"
Even a few minutes of practice each day can make a huge difference.
Show Genuine Interest
Show curiosity about what they're learning. Ask them to play their favorite pieces for you and discuss their progress.
Have conversations about the music they enjoy listening to. Discuss different genres, artists, and instruments.
Ask your child to teach you what they're learning. This is a great way to reinforce their knowledge and build confidence.
Embrace the Learning Process
Learning an instrument takes time and patience. Help your child understand that progress is gradual and that mistakes are a natural part of the process.
Explore Musical Preferences
Explore different genres and artists together. This is a fun way to bond and discover new music.
Attend concerts together. Live music can be a great source of inspiration and motivation.
